About me

I am a Ph.D student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington. I received a B.A. in Linguistics and a B.A. in Middle East Studies from the University of Utah, followed by an M.A. in Linguistics from the same institution.

My research interests lay in sociolinguistics and phonetics. My primary interests are in English spoken in my native town of Salt Lake City, Utah. My M.A. thesis* was a sociophonetic analysis of (ay) monopthongization in Salt Lake City. My current research program is investigating how Mormon and Non-Mormon identities are expressed linguistically. I have other interests in American Indian languages (specifically Numic lanugages), Semitic languages (specifically Arabic, Israeli Hebrew, and Neo-Aramaic), and language and sports.

*My thesis contains a very large typo in the final chapter. For this I apologize.
